Star Trek: Discovery Prop Reveals

The official Star Trek: Discovery twitter account has been posting some interesting clips lately. Revealing props such as the new communicator and phasers. And damn, do they look great! I fully expect and hope to see a good look of the new tricorder soon.

Update:

Jonathan Frakes dropped an awesome photo on Twitter of the new phaser prop and I love it! I gotta say, this looks so much better to me than what they’ve been using in the last three movies.

Phaser Pistol

The new phaser really looks like a combination of the classic original series pistol and the laser pistol from The Cage (pictured)

Damn, that phaser is perfect. It harkens right back to the original series phaser prop, but even more than that, look at the business end of the weapon. It’s got the same triple barrel look as the hand laser prop from the original pilot episode of TOS “The Cage”! That’s perfect because that’s the exact time period that we’re supposed to be in with Discovery.

Phaser Rifle

Ok, this thing is just sexy. There’s some shapes on here that harken back to the phase pistol and the MACO rifle weapons from Enterprise. We also have that triple barrel on the front again. I really want to get a better look at this, but I have to say from what I can tell it looks great!

Communicator

Once again, this prop looks spot on. Clearly looking like an updated version of an original series communicator, sticking more closely to that look than what we have in the J.J. Trek films. I just love how it looks retro and old school, but also sleek and updated at the same time.

So like many fans, I’ve been having my reservations about the new Star Trek: Discovery. But these props that they have been revealing are everything I could ever want. If the rest of the show has this level of care and attention to detail it will be spectacular. However, some props do not a tv show make.

I’m honestly baffled how tiny details like these can be done so perfectly well, but Klingons are just looking horrible. What we’ve seen of sets and ships I’m just not enthused about either. I still have my doubts about the final product. As always, we shall wait and see.
